typographic printing program
I was personally referred to attend the intense Typographic Printing Program under the guidance of renowned poster designer Dafi Kühne in the beautiful Näfels, Switzerland.
June - July 2024
Näfels, CHE
Stage One: Design a poster for letterpress
There was an emphasis on experimentation and an iterative design process. You think it's good enough? Do ten more.
Stage Two: Create typographic elements
I used linocut to create the large-scale type. For the smaller type, I employed typesetting and Ludlow casting techniques.
Stage Three: Poster design construction
Once the final linocut designs were completed, I mounted them on a wooden board for easy transportation.
Stage Four: Lockups
The letterpress is a meticulous and demanding machine, capable of printing only one color at a time. To achieve precise results, I had to align my lockups perfectly to avoid wasting materials or ink. The process was both challenging and rewarding, requiring me to be intentional with every millimeter of my design adjustments.
